Super sorry that I have been absent in this really exciting time for Chanel! To catch up everyone, a few moths ago Chanel started filming her first motion picture. At the times, details were small but what we knew it was an independent film titled Dope. Now we know the film was directed by Rick Famuyiwa (The Wood, Talk to Me) and produced by Forest Whitaker with P. Diddy and Pharrell Williams executive producing.
Watch the trailer below:
The film revolves around three high school seniors from Inglewood, California and their journey to their future amidst the dangers of drugs and gang violence. Don’t let this plot summary fool you; the film is described to be INCREDIBLY funny while providing a necessary social commentary. The film stars new-comer Shameik Moore, Zoë Kravitz, and Kimberly Elise among others.
The film recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah where it opened to rave reviews and won an award for editing. Most impressively, the film was the big winner at Sundance as a bidding war between major studios over the film led to a 7 million dollar deal with Sony Pictures (as opposed to the usual 3 million for pictures out of Sundance).
This is a super exciting time for Chanel and so happy/proud of her for landing her first acting role in a motion picture. The fact that the film is on tack to be one of the buzziest premieres this year is just the icing on the cake! Can’t wait to see what else is in store for the remainder of the journey for the film and what other career moves are in motion for Chanel!
The film is slated for release on June 12, 2015. Keep up with Chanel Iman Daily for more information regarding Chanel’s role in the film.
